Headphone hanger is a type of headphone stand which is mounted on horizontal or vertical surfaces. It is a clean way of keeping away your headphones because it doesn’t add to the clutter of the desk.

Build Quality

Unlike most cheaply made headphone hangars which are made out of plastic, the Truss is solidly built with die-cast aluminum metal. The matte finishing adds on to the sturdy feel of the headphone hangar. A 3M VHB Tape is provided at the top of the hangar for mounting on surfaces. The Brainwavz has confirmed to me that they are using 3M™ VHB™ 4991. This should be suitable for most surfaces. There is one downside that we found. The metal build of the Truss adds unnecessary weight to the headphone hangar. Since the entire structure depends on the 3M VHB tape to stay mounted, any extra weight that we can shave off from the hangar itself can help prolong the adhesiveness of the tape.

Ergonomics

Shaped like an elongated anchor, the Truss can hang two headphones simultaneously. The hooked ends prevent the headphones from slipping away.

The metal plates where the headbands are resting on is tightly secured by two screws. It is also slightly curved. This follows the natural curvature of the headband and reduces the amount of friction on the band. At 45 x 50 mm each, the metal plate should be able to accommodate the width of most headbands. We found it fairly easy to hang our headphones onto the hangar, without really looking at it.

There is a small issue with the close proximity between the two metal plates. For headphones with larger ear cups, you will find that the ear cups of the two headphones will come in contact with each other.

Conclusion

At less than $20, the Truss offers great value by allowing you to hang two headphones concurrently. The great build quality is evident from the look and feel of the all-metal aluminum body. We will prefer the Truss to be slightly lighter to reduce the pressure on the adhesive tape. However, that should not be a big issue if you follow the proper way of applying the 3M VHB Tape. If you are looking for a headphone hanger that can be mounted on vertical surfaces instead, you should check out the Brainwavz Hooka.
